Ida McCabe Johnson, passed away peacefully at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta on April 8, surrounded by loving family. She was born on April 15, 1922 in Greenfield, Nova Scotia, to Maggie M. and Burton W. McCabe. Ida was the wife of the late James R. Johnson (1916-2008). They were married in Paris, France in 1949. Ida was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, completely devoted to her husband and family. She is survived by her sons, David R. Johnson of Scottsdale, AZ, Eric M. Johnson of Portland, ME, and Ethan W. Johnson of Willoughby, OH; and grandchildren, Jean H. McCabe and Ross B. McCabe of Portland, ME, and James W. Johnson of Willoughby, OH. Ida’s parents moved the family from Nova Scotia to Cape Cod, MA when she was four years old. As a young adult, she lived in Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C. During World War II she worked for the Federal Office of Price Administration in D.C. After the war, she was employed in New York City by the A.C. Nielson Company. In 1954 she and her husband Jim moved to Cleveland, OH, where her sons were born. In 1972 the family moved to Storrs, CT, and in 1986 she and her husband bought a house in Waldoboro, ME, where they spent every summer and fall. They made their primary residence in Waldoboro in 2002, and in 2004 moved to Schooner Cove in Damariscotta.
