Ida C. Humphrey, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of November 8, 2013 with her family by her side. Ida was born on February 17, 1931 at her aunt’s home in North Waldoboro, to Fernando and Alice Grotton Webber, the last of seven children. She married her beloved high school sweetheart, Gordon B. Humphrey on May 28, 1949. She and Gordon were lifelong residents of South Bristol, except for two years when she accompanied her husband to Tennessee, Kentucky and Germany while he served in the Army. Ida worked at many jobs, including packing apples and picking shrimp and crabs. At one time, she was the co-owner of Island Grocery and Lunch. She finished her working career as Postmaster at the Walpole Post Office for over twenty years. Ida was well known in the community as a kind and generous person who was always ready to lend a hand to her friends and family in need. Her friendly and outgoing nature, fit well with her work at the polls, where she enjoyed meeting new and old friends. She is survived by her husband, Gordon, the love of her life; son, Gordon, Jr.; and daughter, Linda Ross; granddaughter, Carrie Todd and grandson-in-law, Phillip; great-granddaughter, Kiara and great-grandson Phillip, III; sister, Celia Mohr; brother, Nelson Webber; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
