Hermann John Thran, age 92, of Hibbing and formerly of Big Falls, MN died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in the Fairview University Medical Center – Mesabi. He was born March 24, 1917 in New Ulm, MN the son of John and Emelia (Jacobi) Thran. He attended school in Mizpah, MN. Hermann was united in marriage to Vera Mepham on April 6, 1945 in Melbourne, Australia.
An Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, Hermann served as a medic and ambulance driver in the Asiatic/Pacific Theatre. Hermann worked as a logger and truck driver – retiring in 1980. He was a member of the American Legion, the Volunteer Fire Department, and he umpired for Baseball in Big Falls. In 2007, Hermann and Vera moved to Hibbing to be with their daughter, Helen.
Hermann is survived by his wife: Vera; his daughter: Helen Thran of Hibbing; nieces: Norma Doroff of Roseville, MN, Arlene Doroff of Northome, MN, Melinda Bennett and Jennifer McLynsky, both of Melbourne, Australia; sister-in-law: Pam Grey of Melbourne; and special friends: Dick and Shirley Boes of Big Falls, and Shirley Johnson of Hibbing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister: Florence.
