Henry Alexander Lund, Sr. was born on March 24, 1907 to Trygve Wiggo and Karen Agnette (Rykstad) Lund in clear River Township, Warroad, MN. Henry was the eldest of five siblings. After finishing grade school, trapping was a way of life for Henry through his 20’s. Henry formed a dance band with his brothers in the 1920’s and 30’s. In 1928, Henry worked for relatives on a dairy farm in South Dakota. In 1929 he worked for the Feldspar Mining Co. at the Northwest Angle, and in 1930 he began work at the Flag Island Resort as a fishing guide on Lake of the Woods. In 1932-1933 he moved back to farm with relatives in South Dakota until the drought destroyed their livelihood. Henry spent many seasons as a lumberjack cutting railroad ties, pulpwood, and Christmas trees.
Henry and Gwen Adelaide Reinhart were married on October 15, 1938 in Grafton, ND by the only woman judge in the United States at the time. They resided on their farm south of Warroad. They had four children: Kathleen Adele, Henry Alexander Jr., Timothy Arnold, and Karleen Ann. In 1944, Henry went to work for Cargill in Savage, MN as a welder. In 1945 he worked for the U.S. Navy Department in Nebraska as a railroad brakeman. He then farmed and worked at Marvin Windows as a supervisor in the winter seal department until he retired in 1972. They moved to Warroad in 2002. Henry was a wonderful, committed Christian. He is known for his amazing memory and attention to detail. He was a devoted husband and father.
On January 14, 2006, Henry passed away at the Warroad Care Center. He was 99 years old. He was preceded in death by his siblings; his wife, Gwen, and two children: Kathleen Lund Scholl and “Hal” Henry Lund, Jr. He is survived by one son and daughter in law: Timothy and Betty Lund of El Mirage, Arizona; one daughter and son-in-law Karleen and David Peterson of Ashton, South Dakota; one son-in-law, Sam Scholl of Hutchinson, MN, and one daughter-in-law, Connie Lund of Detroit Lakes, MN. Henry and Gwen have 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great granddaughters. Praise the Lord for his long life of solid faith and Christian witness.
