Helen R. Brandsen, age 88, passed away February 10, 2017 in Portland, Michigan. Helen was born to Lawrence and Ida (Merchant) Huhn in Sebewa Township. She was a member of the Portland Christian Reformed Church until its closing in 1986, since then she has been a member of the Immanuel Reformed Church in Lansing. Helen always strived to set a Christian example and never wanted to be a burden. Helen married Gordon Brandsen in 1947 and they were married for 50 years until his passing. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; daughters, Sharon Hoort and Colleen Monks; grandchildren, Art Hayward and Doug Barker; siblings, Alan Huhn, Leon Huhn, Margaret (Huhn) Cross, Louise (Huhn) Pitch, and Francis (Huhn) Wohlscheid. Helen is survived by her children, Roger (Peggy) Brandsen, Russell (Debbie) Brandsen, Nancy (Steven) Bales, Larry (Gerri) Hoort, and Earl (Annette) Monks; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Pauline Arnesen, Ruth VanHouten, and Harriet Baxter, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
