Helen Jean Arthur of Denton passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the home of her daughter, Cindy Yost, near Hurlock. She was 78 years old.
Born May 26, 1939, in Denton, Maryland, Mrs. Arthur was the daughter of the late George Walter Downes, III and Katherine Virginia Doran Downes. She was a lifelong resident of Denton and attended Caroline High School. On March 30, 1956, she married Franklin E. Arthur, SR, who preceded her in death on June 12, 2009
Mrs. Arthur was a waitress for many years, but later managed English`s Family Restaurant in Ocean City, MD for 20 years. After retiring, she worked as a cook for Choptank River Yacht Club and was also a loving caregiver to many Caroline County residents.
Mrs. Arthur is survived by four daughters, Mary Jo Towers (Paul) Denton, MD, Tracey Lynn Draper (David) Greensboro, MD, Bonnie Sue Moore (Russell) Wilmington, DE and Cynthia Louise Yost (Nathan) Hurlock, MD, two sons, Franklin Eugene Arthur Jr. (Linda) Fallston, MD and Michael Lee Arthur (Beth) Weems, Va.; three sister, Mary Catherine Sullivan, Cambridge, MD, Ella Jane Todd (her twin), Denton, MD, A. Virginia (Ginny) Downes, Preston, MD, one brother, Jesse P. Spencer, Denver, CO, she was preceded in death by a brother, Howard (Tennie) Spencer. She was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
