Harvey Richart, age 95 of Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on December 25, 2012 in the Edgewood Vista Senior Living Center in Virginia. He was born November 4, 1917 in Wolf, MN the fourth of eight children of Robert and Marie (nee Holton) Richart, and was a long time resident of Parkville and West Virginia. In his mid-teens, Harvey attended an American Sunday School Union Bible Camp where he committed his life to following Christ. He was an active member of the First Covenant Church in Virginia serving in various offices; he also worked with Child Evangelism Fellowship, and supported the work of the Range Youth for Christ. Harvey attended the Eveleth Schools and during the depression, he worked at the Gooseberry Falls Civilian Conservation Corps Camp Company 2710. Later, he was active in the CCC Alumni Association for many years. Harvey was an Army veteran of WWII. He entered active duty on 10 OCT 1941 and served with the 11th Engineers Combat Battalion in Panama and later in the European Theatre of Operations. He returned home on 22 DEC 1945 and enjoyed reading books on WWII, especially biographies. Harvey married Bertha Sigrid Carlson on June 15, 1946 in Virginia and they were married for 61 years until Bertha’s death in September 2007. They were blessed with four children, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Harvey was employed by US Steel and retired in 1982 as a small vehicle maintenance shop foreman. Harvey was an avid walleye fisherman who loved to work in the woods cutting wood for milling and heating. He knew where to find great wild blueberry patches.
Harvey is survived by children: Carol (Russ) Johnson of Arvada, CO, Lois (Anthony) McKaig of Northglenn, CO, Ken (Jeanne) Richart of St. Cloud, MN and Dan (Teri) Richart of Eveleth, MN; grandchildren: Sten Johnson, Lars Johnson, Britt (Terry) Carlson, Nicole Richart, Jessica Richart, Michelle Richart, and Kristina Richart; great-grandchildren: Annika and John Owen Carlson; brother-in-law: Reuben Carlson; sister-in-law: Judith Richart; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Bertha; and siblings: Florence, William, Imogene, Robert, Genevieve, Alice and Manford.
