Harvey Richert Garson, age 77 of Virginia and formerly of Britt, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 in Essentia Health Center – Virginia. He was born November 25, 1937 in International Falls, MN the son of Harvey O. and Lydia Marie (Richert) Garson, raised in Duluth, where he was active in Boy Scouts, and graduated from Denfeld High School. Harvey enlisted in the United States Air Force and after his active duty joined the Army National Guard and later the Air National Guard both in Duluth. He moved to Virginia and was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 120, the secretary for the Virginia Bowling League for many years, was a Life Member of the Eveleth Elks Lodge and served as the Exalted Ruler in 1969, and enjoyed playing couples Kitten Ball with his wife: Geri. Harvey was a member of the Pike-Sandy-Britt Volunteer Fire Department, and EMT Training Officer, and was employed by UPS for 33 years. He also owned and operated an auto repair shop on Britt and was an Iron Range News photographer for WDIO Channel 10. Harvey moved to Babbitt where he and his wife operated a fabric, craft, and hobby store, was “Happy Harv” the Saturday Morning DJ for WELY, playing Classic Country Music, and was a member of the Babbitt VFW Post # 1539 and its Honor Guard. They moved to Arizona prior to moving to Virginia, MN. He was an aquatics instructor for the Mesabi YMCA, a Life Member of the Crellin-Tini VFW Post # 1113, and a member of the Pratt – Volden – Mickelson – Anderson Post # 239 American Legion – Virginia. Harvey enjoyed building doll houses and donating them, or giving them away.
