Harry Karagosian passed away October 14, 2018, with his family around him. Born in Pontiac, MI on July 15, 1925, he was the son of Setrag and Mary (nee Henegian) Karagosian. Starting as a young schoolboy, until he was out of school and drafted into the US Army, Harry worked at any job possible – selling apples with his father, newspapers, setting bowling pins, laboring in Pontiac Motor Car, Co., anything to help his family through the terrible years of the Great Depression. His one great joy, as a little boy in those years, was to spend a nickel to attend a movie with a bag of popcorn on Saturday During WWII, as a Corporal in the 7th Armored Infantry Unit of the U.S. Army, he was wounded in action soon after landing in France. Harry was captured and spent the rest of the war locked up many months as a POW. Returning after the war, he resumed working for Pontiac as a toolmaker. He married Florence E. Karagozian and became a hard working family man. Endowed with strong entrepreneurial skills, he began selling watches and rings to fellow shop employees. He learned the jewelry craft from a friend in the business, and began a business in the basement of his home. Upward and onward, as an accomplished jeweler, Harry and Florence moved from the basement and opened their store in Sylvan Lake, co-founding Karagosian Jewelers, where he became a successful businessman in the community. In his leisure time, Harry loved to travel with his family, and always enjoyed stopping in an exciting casino. But the greens always captured him for a good game as an avid golfer. Harry was a kind and loving father, who taught honesty and work ethics to his sons. By example, he wanted them to live within reason, to be accountable and always be an asset, never dependent. Above all, Harry placed respect for family as a high pinnacle in life. However, with his generous spirit, Harry always looked back to help others along the way. It can be said that Harry Karagosian leaves his loved ones a fine example of hard work, honesty, love and respect.FAMILY MEMBERSBeloved husband of the late Florence E. Karagosian.
