Harriet Vaughn Weems Boozer, 99, died at the Indian Creek Nursing Home in Overland Park, Kansas, on November 5, 2014.

She was born on April 2, 1915, in Pineville, Mississippi, to William and Florence Wilkins Vaughn. She graduated from Pineville High School. She married Lovett H. Weems of Forest, Mississippi, in 1935. Together they opened Weems Cash Grocery south of Forest after he returned from World War II and ran it until shortly after her husband’s sudden death in 1970. After that she worked as a teacher’s aide and bus driver for the Forest Separate School District until her retirement. In 1980 she married Curtis Boozer of Pulaski, Mississippi who later died in 1996. All of her adult life was spent in Scott County, Mississippi, until she relocated to be nearer family in recent years.

She is survived by her son, Lovett H. Weems, Jr., and wife Emily Weems of Overland Park, Kansas; step-son Michael Boozer and wife Pam Boozer of Pearl, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Lovett H. Weems III, Cynthia Dee Weems, Elizabeth Weems Bridson, and Lawrence David Weems; two step-grandchildren Elizabeth and Sarah Boozer; thirteen great- and step-great grandchildren; one sister, Lilla Mae Bailey of Sparta, Tennessee; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and seven brothers and sisters, Juel Moncrief, Russell Vaughn, Henry Vaughn, Glen Vaughn, Rhue Vaughn, Gerson Vaughn, and Ouida Petrosky.

She was an active member of Homewood United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and held numerous offices through the years. She was known for her hard work, generous spirit, and love of family and friends.
