Harold Marvin Ruona, age 93 of Hermantown and formerly of Hoyt Lakes died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 in the Golden Oaks Assisted Living Residence in Hermantown. He was born January 7, 1917 in Blueberry Township, Wadena County, Minnesota the son of Lars and Anna (Timo) Ruona. Harold was a graduate of Menahga High School and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was an Army veteran of WWII Serving in the Army Engineers in the South Pacific Theater. Harold married Martha Irene Lundgren on November 4, 1950 in Sebeka, MN and was a longtime resident of Hoyt Lakes. He was employed by Erie Mining Company as a field electrician, retiring in March of 1984. Harold was a member of VFW Post # 8144 in Hoyt Lakes, and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Aurora. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, rock collecting, photography and technology. Harold had an explorer’s spirit.
Harold is survived by children: Marvin (Carol) Ruona of Gilbert, AZ, Kathryn (Carl) Mostrom of Two Harbors, MN, Sheila (Gary) Ascheman of Willmar, MN, Keith (Karen) Ruona of Rochester, MN and Wanda (Mark) Simmonds of Saginaw, MN; grandchildren: Christina Stapher, Jason Ruona, Nicole Ruona, Hannah Ruona, Landon Ascheman, Bethany Hardy, Isaac Ruona, Rebecca Ruona, Sarah Ruona, and Jonathan Simmonds; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Martha in 1990; brother Woodrow Ruona, and sister: Lucile Turner.
