Hallard John Foss, the son of Gladys (Spicer) and Halvor Foss, was born on August 7, 1914 in Duxby, Minnesota. He grew up and attended school in the Duxby area. In 1942, he worked on the Alaskan Highway, and farmed in the Duxby area until 1950, when he moved to California. He worked for 9 years at Lockhead Aircraft factory. He and Elizabeth Grant were married in 1971 in Winterhaven, California, where they lived for 30 years. She passed away in 1978. He returned to Northern Minnesota in 1983, and has lived here ever since.
Hallard enjoyed traveling, playing horseshoes, and bowling; also received an E-Pin for Efficiency from President Roosevelt. He was very involved in the “Sons of Norway,” once serving as President of the California Sons of Norway.
Hallard Foss has resided at the Greenbush Nursing Home the last few years, where he passed away on September 7, 2005 at the age of 89.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Telecky of Ritzville, WA; sister-in-law, Cora Foss of Roseau and Delores Foss of Ritzville, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Foss and Abraham Foss; sister, Henrietta Elliot; and his parents.
