Gurcharan Singh Gola of Bowie, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2017. He was a loving husband to his late wife Lajja Devi Gola; a devoted father to five children Shailender, Shashi, Anil, Yatin, and Bharat; a devoted father-in-law to Sunita, Madhu, Chetna, Gayatri, and late Amod; a loving brother to Indro, Kuldeep, and late Channo; and a cherished grandfather to Jatin and his wife Allison, Sunny, Shikha and her husband Brendan, Ashu, Akhil, Nikhil, Samarth and his wife Reshma, Sparsh, Ankush, and Ankita. He lived a modest and fulfilling life with his wife for over 55 years.

 

After working for the Government of India for 20 years as an architect, he traveled to the United States in 1974 to improve his family’s life. Within a short amount of time, he established himself in Washington, D.C., area and successfully brought his entire family to America.  After working as an architect in the private sector, he joined the federal government in the mid-1980s. After his retirement, he split his time between his native India and his home in Bowie, Maryland. In 2016, he moved back to the DC area to spend time with his children and their families.

 

Gurcharan, who we all refer to as Babuji, will be fondly remembered as a great friend, a generous person, and as the beloved patriarch of the Gola family.
