Joyner, Sr. Survived by four children, Bonita J. Shields of Brookeville, MD, Benjamin H. Joyner, Jr. of Virginia, Belinda G. Estep of Virginia, and Bruce M. Joyner of Virginia. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a sister, Caroline Sullivan of Maryland, and two brothers, Calvin Hanrahan of North Carolina and Allen Hanrahan of Virginia.
