Passed away peacefully on August 16, 2022, at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late Edward Kaleel. Loving mother of Bruce (Linda Helfmann) Gage and Jane (Darris Drake) Sowards. Cherished grandmother of Richard (Samantha) Sowards, James (Fanessa) Sowards, Meghan (Jimmy) Noe, Charles Schoner, Taylor Drake, and Tracy Drake. Proud great-grandmother of 6. Dear sister of Martha (Tony) Cortese. Dearest aunt of Kelly (Jeff) Larkin. She leaves behind many other loving family members and friends.
Gretchen graduated from Wayne State University with a Master’s degree in fine arts and a degree in gerontology. In the 1990’s Gretchen’s entrepreneurial spirit gave way to her jewelry business World on a String. She was a active member of the St. Clair Shores Palette Club. Her love for art and beautiful talent gave way to the creation of many renowned acrylic, watercolor, and oil paintings; and many charcoal drawings.
Her free spirit and eccentric personality will be missed by everyone who was blessed to know her.
