Greta Marlene Ocklind
Greta Marlene Ocklind, 84, passed away January 13, 2017 at her home in Virginia. She was born June 16, 1932 in Virginia, MN, the daughter of Carl Hugo Ocklind and Adeline Katherine Johnson Ocklind.
She was a 1950 graduate of Virginia Roosevelt High School, and a 1952 graduate of Virginia Junior College. She enjoyed a long career with the City of Virginia treasurer’s office. In 1972, she became the first woman City Treasurer in the city’s history.
Greta greatly enjoyed playing golf, and was a member of the Virginia Golf Club for many years. She also enjoyed music, dance, theater, bridge, bowling, curling, and cheering on the Minnesota Twins. She was a longtime member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, the Virginia Study Club, and the Virginia Area Historical Society.
She was a special Auntie to her nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and nieces.
Great is survived by her nephews and nieces Charles (Maria) Knox of Chardon, OH; Kathryn (Howard) Fein of Richmond Heights, OH; Marjorie (Jeffrey) Conner of Madison, IN; Carl (Irene) Anderson of Woodbury, MN; and Sally (Francis S. LaBreck) Anderson of Hastings, MN; and by great-nephews and nieces Evan Fein, Ph.D., Robert C. (Christine) Knox, Elin LaBreck, Francis J. LaBreck, Robyn (Nathan) Johnson, and Kelly (Matthew) Anonsen. She is also survived by her brother-in-law James E. (Mary) Anderson of Mt. Iron, other relatives, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her older sister, Irmalyn Rose Ocklind Knox; her twin sister, Patricia Ann Ocklind Anderson; brother-in-law, Robert G. Knox; and special friend, Michael Babbini.
Greta was a lifelong resident of Virginia, and was an enthusiastic supporter of the city
and its history.
