Gordon Lyle Piercefield was born April 25, 1929 in Ionia County to William Arthur” Joe” and Thelma Irene (Catlin) Piercefield. He was their second son and third child in a family of 15 children. He married Cleo Downing on June 18, 1949, the day she graduated from Western Michigan University. Their married life together began in a travel trailer until they saved enough to purchase the farm on Knoll road, putting his carpentry skills to use, they made the house livable. He died on May 1, 2014, in that same house. He began his work career on the farm helping his father and then purchased his own farm. He did custom combining. He was the owner of East Side Lumber in Portland and ended his work career with Portland Iron and Metal Company.
