Glen Turnbough, 86 years, 1 month and 17 days passed away Sunday, March 18, 2007 at the Harry S. Truman Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was born Tuesday, February 1, 1921 in Crawford County, the son of Wayne and Luettie (Scott) Turnbough. Glen was united in marriage to Juanita Payne in December of 1945 in Union, Missouri and to this union two sons and one daughter were born. Juanita preceded Glen in death on July 27, 1993.
Those left to mourn his passing are his two sons, Glenwood Turnbough and wife Bonnie of Steelville, Missouri and Roger Turnbough and wife Becky of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter, Peggy Benson and husband Harry of Lodi, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Cody Turnbough of Steelville, Missouri, Jennifer Rake and husband Tim of Lodi Wisconsin, Jeffrey Benson of Westland, Michigan, and Jaime Benson of Lodi, Wisconsin; one great-granddaughter, Samantha; two brothers, Clarence Turnbough of Cuba, Missouri and Gilbert Turnbough and wife Louise of Steelville, Missouri; three sisters, Verniece Lea and husband Hack of Steelville, Missouri, Pauline Walden of Arnold Missouri and Fran Guess of Steelville, Missouri. Glen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Juanita; one sister-in-law, Opal Turnbough; and two brothers-in-law, Frank Guess and Walter Walden.
Glen has served his country during WWII as a Ball Turrett Gunner on the 551st Bomb Squad in the Army Air Force over Germany. After being shot down on a mission, Glen endured 14 months of hardship as a prisoner of war in German camps. After being freed, Glen came back to Steelville where he worked in the timber industry and farming. He loved to bowl and was a member of the Senior Bowling League, Disabled American Veterans, and the Trappers Association. He loved to hunt and fish. Glen was a devoted father, grandfather, and brother who faced each obstacle in life with courage and determination.
