Gertrude L. “Gert” Robertson, age 93 of Hibbing died Saturday, May 18, 2013 in Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 17, 1920 in Rapid City, SD the daughter of Hans and Edith (Swanson) Hansen; and was a graduate of Rapid City High School and attended South Dakota School of Mines. Gert married James H. Robertson on March 8, 1947 in Rapid City; they resided in Duluth for 18 years and were longtime residents of Hibbing. She had been an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing where she volunteered as a quilter, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of WELCA. Gert was a longtime volunteer with the Fairview University Center – Mesabi Auxiliary; and a member of the Mesaba Country Club where she had served as the chairperson of the ladies group. She enjoyed playing bridge, square dancing, and loved to sew, crotchet, and quilt. Gert made many baby quilts for family and friends, and crocheted hats for newborns at the Fairview RRHS. She also bought and dressed stuffed bears which she donated to the Hibbing Police Department to be given to children in need.
Gert is survived by her husband of 66 years: Jim Robertson; daughters: Dr. Nancy (Ric) Hollins of Whitesboro, NY and Sandra (Tom) Wierman of Idaho Falls, ID; son: Tom (Mary) Robertson of Hibbing; grandchildren: Jim Robertson, Dr. Katie Robertson, Scott Hollins, Katy Hollins, Kristen Hollins, and Rob Stuffle; extended family; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by daughter: Linda Stuffle; siblings: Harold Hansen and Dee Wethe; and her parents.
