George Derold West, age 86, longtime resident of Pengilly, Kelly Lake, and Hibbing, died Friday, February 19, 2010 in Heritage Manor in Chisholm. He was born May 25, 1923 in Kelly Lake, MN the son of George and Hildur (Norberg) West. He graduated from Hibbing High School.
A veteran of WWII, George served in the US Navy. He was employed at National Steel as a mechanic and foreman – retiring in 1978. George attended the Congregation of the Good Shepherd during his summers in MN. He lived to golf, and enjoyed fishing.
George is survived by five children: George (Roberta) West of Cottage Grove, MN, Penny (Bruce) Tkach of Maple Grove, MN, Tim West of Plymouth, MN, Kathleen (Tom) Mize of Pengilly, MN, and Jeffry (Nancy) West of Shakopee, MN; three sisters: Rose Tuin of Kelly Lake, Carol Versich of Hibbing, and Beatrice (Joe) Polich of Kelly Lake; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter: Nancy Woullet; and his brother: Leslie West.
