George F. Kopmann, age 74, of New Haven, Missouri passed away on November 9, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 9, 1942 to the late Aloys and the late Veronica (nee’ Hellebusch) Kopmann.
He was united in marriage to Peggy L. Mergelmeyer on October 16, 1965 at St. Francis Borgia Church in Washington, MO.
George was co-owner (with his brother, Ralph) of Kopmann Farms, Inc. where he raised hogs and cattle as well as corn, soybeans and wheat. He served five years in the Army Reserve. George was a phenomenal ball player and continued playing well into his fifties. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and managed many games out-loud from his recliner! George and his brother, Ralph, loved tractor pulls, and were especially proud of their Allis-Chalmers Two-Ten and the many trophies they accumulated. He loved riding his mules on a coon hunt and turkey hunting the Missouri River bluffs on his farm. In his later years, he took up fishing on the many lakes and rivers. He was passionate about catching big slabs of crappie and running trot lines for lunker catfish. He and his wife, Peggy, enjoyed many camping trips and other vacations with friends and family throughout their fifty one years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and by five children, Diane Scheer, Debra Kopmann and special friend Calvin Stiers, David Kopmann and wife Paula (nee’ Kessler), Michael Kopmann, and Becky Kopmann; four grandchildren, Evan Scheer, Leah Scheer, Ryan Kopmann, and Luke Kopmann; one brother, Ralph Kopmann and wife Elsie; two sisters, Leola Peirick and Arlene Drees; one brother-in-law, Gerry Mergelmeyer and wife Carol; two sisters-in-law, Karen Schowengerdt and Donna Mergelmeyer; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evelyn Drees; brothers-in-law, Gordon Drees, Joe Peirick, Paul Drees, John Schowengerdt, Ronald Mergelmeyer, Richard Mergelmeyer; and one grandchild, Drew Kopmann.
