Bath- Gary Cummings, 67, of Bath, passed away at Mid Coast Hospital, with his family by his side on Monday Oct 24, 2016. He was born in Portland, on April 19, 1949, the son of Robert & Lorraine (Fortier) Cummings. He grew up in Bath and was a member of the class of 1967, Morse High School. After High School, Gary graduated from CMVTI with a degree in Automotives. Gary was employed with Bath Iron Works for a short time in the electrical department and worked with his brother, Mark, as an apprentice, who was teaching him the business before becoming a truck driver, which he enjoyed very much. He was employed with several companies throughout his career as an independent including, North American Van Lines, AlTex, Dead River and then finally retiring with M.W. Sewall after 26 years of service. On August 5, 2000 he married his soul mate of 26 years, Lorica A. Chandler and the couple resided in Bath. Gary, with his big dimples and infectious smile, lived life to the fullest, he was nicknamed the “energizer bunny”. He had many passions, especially for automotives or anything with a motor. He raced at Oxford for many years in a Chevy S10 with a 454 that he built from the ground up. He put his heart & soul into that truck that he has passed on to his grandson, Jacob, to carry on his legacy. Gary had a vision to build a “Mini Most” he started with a plan and finished with his creativity. He was able to spend a lot of time enjoying the boat on the Kennebec & Damariscotta Lake. Gary had a beautiful voice and loved singing and playing his guitar, he was a member of the Delta Heart Trio & Chorus Group, where he sang tenor. Music was something that came from his heart. He was also an avid golfer, a member of the Bath county Club and enjoyed playing at Mere Creek with his best friend Charlie for the past few years. Gary was also a member of the Dresden-Richmond United Methodist Church and currently a member of the Bath Methodist Church, involved in the Tres Dias Community, United Bikers of Maine and the NHRA Drag Racing Association. He leaves behind his loving wife and companion of 26 years, Lorica of Bath; his daughter Amy True of Woolwich, step sons; Adam Chandler & his wife Kati of Richmond, Aaron Chandler & his wife Pam of Wiscasset; grandchildren; Jacob True, Ian & Olivia Chandler; Brothers, Mark Cummings of Bath, Jay Cummings & wife Cindy of Dresden; extended family members Lana, Billy, Eileen, Maureen, Ray & Pat and many other close family along with nieces, nephews and many beloved friends.
