Frieda passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 10, 2011, at the age of 94, with loved ones at her side. She was the first child of Archie and Lucinda Lucke, born June 18, 1917 in Pinconning. She later moved to Charlotte where she graduated from High School and met her husband Louie S. Carter. They were married in 1938 and moved to Grand Rapids in 1946. After Louie’s death in 1975 she married Harold Root of Charlotte in 1982. They continued to live in Grand Rapids, spent many winters in Bradenton, Florida, and summers at the cottage on Mecosta Lake. Her last few months were spent in Portland at Country Living because of her declining health.

She loved having her family and friends around and spent many happy hours with them at her home or at the lake, playing card games with the grandchildren and filling their lives with many happy memories. Her nieces and nephews held a very special place in her heart and spent many fun filled times with her. She also did a lot of traveling through the years. In earlier years she was a member of Methodist Church and a Sunday school teacher, member of the Eastern Star, and a Campfire Leader to a very Special Group of girls for several years. She was a very caring lady and will be greatly missed by many.

She is preceded in death her parents, husbands, her brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, and a niece. Freida will be kept forever in the hearts of her sister, Josephine Cole; daughter, Nancy (Don) Dilley; grandchildren Deb (Jim) Hengesbach, Jackie (Steve) Eberly, Greg (Tonya) Johnson, Bryan (Robyn) Johnson, Terri (Ron) Howland, Lorri Selleck, Dave (Carrie) Dilley; 31 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; Step-Family Phil Root and partner Joe Conte, Jan (Tony) Oien, Ron (Patsy) Root; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Also her very special nieces and nephews and many friends.
