Frederick Leo “Bud” Backes was born in Frankenstein, MO on January 20, 1932. His parents were Fred A. Backes and Angela Mary Lock Backes.

He married Carroll Quick Backes on November 28, 1951. They were married 62 years this past fall.

Bud is survived by his wife Carroll; five daughters, Jackie Weidle, husband Larry, Sharon Althen, husband James, Kim Hoemann, husband James, Kelly Toelke, husband Robert, and Paula Backes-Tanner, husband Steve; one son, Scott Backes, wife Jackie; one sister, Velma Banken; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, one grandson, Michael Hoemann, and two brother-in-laws, Leonard Banken and Leroy Quick.

Bud and his family moved to New Haven when he was in grade school. He graduated from New Haven High School. He lived on a farm outside of New Haven where he raised hogs and cattle and row cropped corn, soybeans, and wheat. In 1979, along with his daughter and son-in-law, he started an agricultural retail business outside of the New Haven city limits.
