Fred Arnold Sorensen, Sr., 81, of Baudette, died Sunday, September 24, 2006 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 3, 1925 in Carp, Minnesota to Peter and Adeline (Rudd) Sorensen.
He married Marie Olson of Kelliher, MN October 3, 1945 in San Diego, California.
Fred was a US Navy Veteran of World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. Following his service in the Navy, he received his B.S. Degree and M.A. Degree from the University of Minnesota a” Twin Cities. He taught Vocational Agriculture at Wood Lake, Minnesota, the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture in Waseca, MN and served as the adult agricultural coordinator at the Area Vocational Technical Institute in Thief River Falls, MN. After his teaching career, he became a loan officer at Union State Bank in Thief River Falls and served there until becoming the President of American State Bank in Grygla, MN.
In 1983, Fred purchased and operated Sorensen Chevrolet-Olds in Roseau, MN and remained in Roseau until his retirement. Following his retirement, he returned to Baudette, MN to live.
During his career, he was active in the Jaycees, Lions Club, VFW, Elks and Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Baudette, the American Legion and Lake of the Woods Senior Citizens.
He married Audrey M. Grund on Oct. 2, 2004 at First Lutheran Church in Baudette.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie (Olson) Sorensen; his sister, Anne (Sorensen) Nelson and his granddaughter, Rya Lee Nagy.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey M. (Grund) Sorensen of Baudette; his children, Fred Jr. (Roxanne) of Red Lake Falls, MN, Kathy (Albert) Nagy of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Lee (Caroline) Sorensen of Roseau, MN; his grandchildren, Jessica (Tim) Ollhoff, Greg (Carol) Sorensen, Stephanie (Kresimir Kundic) and Fred Sorensen,III; Burke, Lucas and Annika Nagy; Wendy (Matt) Pedersen, Casey, Beth, Caitlin and Kelly Sorensen; great grandchildren, Emily and Hallie Sorensen and Marie Pedersen; his brother and sisters, James P. (Marion) Sorensen of Modesto, CA; Adelyne (James) Gibbs of Grand Forks, ND; Dorothy (Arnold) Scholljegerdes of Ely, MN; step children, Ken D. Grund of Minneapolis, MN and Diane L. Grund of Minneapolis, MN; step grandchildren, Erika (Chris) Beaucage of Washougal, WA and Radford Grund of Eagan, MN.
