Frank Robert Martin, Jr.
Frank was born in Hammond, Indiana on October 24, 1926 and passed away at the age of 95 in Eagan, Minnesota on 10/10/2022. He loved his family, the northwoods, hunting, and Gordon Setters.
Frank spent the first 17 years of his life in Hammond before enlisting in the military. He served as a cryptographer in the United States Army and was ready to begin Air Force flight school just as WWII ended. After his honorable discharge in 1945, Frank attended Purdue University and graduated with a chemistry degree in 1950. Upon graduation, he became a chemical engineer for Western Electric in Chicago. Frank transferred with Western Electric to St. Paul and later worked for Honeywell where he spent 37 years.
Frank met Patricia, the love of his life in 1953. They settled in St. Paul after they married in 1954 and later moved to Shoreview, MN where they made their home for 44 years. In 2002, Frank and Pat moved to Eagan to be closer to grandchildren. They spent free time in northern Minnesota, first at a cabin Frank built in Carlton County and later at a cabin on Lake of the Woods in Morson, Ontario.
Throughout most of their marriage, Frank and Pat owned Gordon Setters. Frank enjoyed field trials and Pat showed them throughout the upper Midwest. If they weren’t showing dogs, they were at the cabin or enjoying the Canadian border lakes.
Preceded in death by parents, Frank Robert Martin Senior and Ethel Estella Martin (née Meston), sister Ruth (Martin) Elster, and brothers Robert Martin and Charles Martin.
Survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia. Daughter Janet (Kurt) Johnson and beloved grandchildren Reid Johnson and Brooke Johnson.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Commons on Marice senior living community and Brighton Hospice.
