He was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania on July 19, 1955, a son of Ray W. and Rose (Ruse) Auvil.
He attended schools in Pennsylvania and entered the U.S. Navy during Vietnam era. He moved to Maine and in 1980 he was employed at Bath Iron Works until 1995.
