Forest L. Smith, Jr. 81 died Wednesday August 20, 2014 in Scarborough. Born in Portland, on Sunday March 19, 1933 at the Maine Eye & Ear Infirmary to Forest L. and Jennie M. Webber Smith, Sr.
He attended Portland Schools. He graduated with the last eighth grade class held at Cummings School in 1947 and he was a member of Deering High School Class of 1951.
He served in the United States Army in Goeppingen, Germany from 1953 to 1955. While stationed in Germany, he enjoyed the German culture.
He was employed at Central Maine Power in Portland for over 43 years, retiring in 1995. On August 19, 1960 he and Eva H. Bourassa were the first couple married in the First Lutheran Church on Auburn St.
Forest was a stamp collector, an avid sports fan especially baseball and football and he communicated with fellow CBer’s all over the world.
He was predeceased by his parents in 1995 and his sister Virginia L. (Smith) Gualtieri in 2004.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Eva H. Smith of Portland, two sons, David T. Smith of Palm Springs, CA and Philip A. Smith and his wife Valeriya Kurkina-Smith and their son Andrew J. Kurkin-Smith all of Portland.
