Fern Opal Albert, 68, of Steelville, MO passed away Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, MO. She was born January 31, 1940 in Steelville, MO to Jona and Eva (Holland) Housewright. On April 29, 1961, she was united in marriage to Reinhold George Albert Jr. who preceded her in death on January 11, 2004.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one son, Scott Albert and wife Renee of Pacific, MO; two daughters, Junette Helmering of Rolla, MO and Annette Fowler and husband Brian of Wentzville, MO; one sister, Vivian Prentice of Rolla, MO; sisters in-law and brothers in-law, Alvina Housewright of Bourbon, MO, Mary Sparks of Texas, Carol Dace of Sullivan, MO, Shirley Williams and husband Hank of Cuba, MO, Joan Slade and husband Harold of Davisville, MO, Bob Albert and wife Jo Ann of St. Peters, MO and Carl Hughes of Piedmont, MO; seven grandchildren, Kristina, Jimmy, Taylor, Emilie, Josh, Graham and Brilyn; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Alora; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Reinhold George Albert Jr., two brothers, Clifford Housewright and infant brother Arthur Lee Housewright, one sister, Mary Ann Hughes, brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Neal Prentice, Al Sparks, Cy Dace, Mildred and Bill Frey, George and Sophia Albert, Art and Virginia Albert, Mae and Jack Pipkins, Dorothy and Don Gravatt and Elizabeth and Julius Diefenbach.

Fern had worked for many years as a clerk for the Crawford County Collectors Office. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Fern was very involved in the community for several years. She was the first woman to be on the Steelville School Board and was past president. She was the current chairperson of the Steelville Alumni School Association, a member of the Board of Golden echoes and had been named Volunteer of the Month and was tour Coordinator for Diamond Tours Inc., a board member of the Meramec Music Theatre, Board Member of the Steelville Homes Inc., President of the TOPS and Aim High Extension Club and just recently had been named the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year for 2007.
