Everest Monroe Moxley, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. Fondly known as “JR” to family and friends, he was born December 10, 1944 to the late Everest M. Moxley and Margaret Moxley Welsh.
JR was a lifelong resident of Damascus where he was a member of the Damascus American Legion, Post 171. He began his working career in farming and later entered into the clothing business as operator of Moxley’s Men’s Wear in Damascus, but continued to work in farming on the Clarence Count farm on Holsey Road. Several years of working at Counts Western Wear in Washington, D.C. were followed by employment as a painter for Kemp Brothers and Sexton Contractors.
JR was an avid and talented athlete early in his life. He played softball with various local teams and later excelled as a golfer.
JR will be long remembered by all who knew him for his friendly smile and welcoming personality. He is survived by his son Brandon his wife Nickie, and their daughter Mallory of Hurricane Mills, TN. He is also survived by his sister Shirley and brothers Bernard and Allen “Mack”, and preceded in death by his brothers Donald and Larry Moxley.
The family would like to thank JR’s caregivers and the entire staff at Westminster Health Care Center. He spent almost a year at this facility and received compassionate care during his entire stay.
