Eugene “Gene” William Cook,
Age 85, of Pewamo, Michigan went to be with his Lord on August 27, 2016 at StoryPoint in Grand Ledge. Gene was born in Pewamo, Michigan on January 30, 1931 to Albert and Pauline Cook. He was a lifelong farmer and married Donna Lynch of Carson City on July 31, 1954 at St. Mary’s Church. They raised six children on the family farm outside of Pewamo.
Gene is survived by his children Sharon (Denny) Bledsoe of Stanton, Paul (Lorraine) Cook of Haslett, Maureen (Terry) Smith of Owosso, Mark (Brenda) Cook of Pewamo, Linda Hall of Wayland and Bruce (Amy) Cook of Westphalia. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Lucille Cook and many nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his wife Donna, parents, brother Jerome Cook, and sisters Kate Miller, Helen Mosher and Alice Semrau.
Gene had a deep faith in God and was an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Pewamo. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family, taking many fishing trips to Canada and getting “the big catch” (two of which proudly hung on the wall of his den). He also served for many years as an Ionia County Commissioner and with the Ionia County Road Commission. Gene had a dry sense of humor, always ready with a funny comment, including a well-timed “Great play, ox” for anyone who made a blunder (usually one of his kids!). He had a big heart, always ready to help in someone’s time of need, especially when caring for his wife Donna in her final years. Gene will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all the staff and caregivers at StoryPoint and Heartland Hospice of Mason, your kind and gentle caring for him will always be remembered. Special thanks also to friends Jim and Ann Stump and Tony and MaryAnn Thelen for being there for him during this time.
