Eugene Wagner, age 89 of Hibbing died Monday, September 28, 2009. He was a three week resident of Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center after a short hospitalization. Eugene was born December 23, 1919 in Odanah, WI the son of Herman and Ella (Wright) Wagner; and lived at the Superior’s Children Home (Fairlawn) for several years. He graduated from Trout Creek High School in Trout Creek, MI in 1938 and married Marion Besonen that same year.
Eugene and Marion lived in Trout Creek until 1952, when they moved to the Milwaukee, WI area. He worked in the lumber industry in Upper Michigan; and later worked at the Ladish Company as an inspector and was involved in the Machinist Union for many years. He enjoyed gardening and orchard farming all his life. In 1988, they moved to Pardeeville, WI where Marion died in 1999. Eugene moved to Tower and Hibbing, MN in 2004.
Eugene and Marion are survived by children: Diana (Vernon) Ruuska of Richardson, TX, Richard (Marilyn) Wagner of Marquette, MI, Gerald (Mary) Wagner of Becker, MN, Eugene Wagner of Florence, AZ, Julie (Jeffrey) Ekegren of Dayton, MN, Jon (Sheila) Wagner of Eveleth, MN and Jill (Robert) Hietala of Hibbing, MN; and many grand children and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother: Alfield Wagner; wife: Marion; grandson: Eugene Wagner III; and siblings: Richard Wagner, Marion Watt, and Juanita Higgins.
