Ethel Frances (Childress) Osborne, Jamestown, Missouri, departed this life on March 11, 2018. She was born to Harry N. Childress and Cora M. (Martin) Childress on February 10, 1921, in rural Moniteau County, near Lupus, Missouri, later moving into Lupus, where she grew up. She started to Sunday school at age 5 years and was baptized into the Lupus Baptist Church at 14 years of age. She was married to John G. Osborne, of Fulton, Missouri, on May 17, 1942, in Montgomery City, Missouri. They were married 59 years before his passing on May 27, 2001.
Ethel was employed by the J.C. Penney Co. in Jefferson City, Missouri, prior to and after WWII. After her retirement from J.C. Penney Co., she served 23 years as the Jamestown C-1 School crossing guard. She served as Secretary to the Board of Jamestown Senior Housing for 6 years.
Ethel and John lived in Colorado for 25 years before moving to Jamestown in 1976. In Colorado, Ethel was an avid church worker teaching children’s church, Bible school and served as church clerk and Sunday school secretary. She was White Cross president and was involved in the Women’s Missionary Society. She also worked part-time at the office of the County Clerk in Georgetown, Colorado. She loved piecing quilts and quilting them and belonged to the old Lupus Quilting Club that was in existence for many years. She loved sewing and could make anything. She loved gardening and canning and won many prizes and ribbons on her canned products, quilts and crafts at the local fairs. Family and friends were often the recipients of her wonderful canned products. She was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church. She also attended Jamestown Assembly of God Church. She had such great love and compassion for all animals, especially her pet dog and cats, and they really loved her. No stray animal ever appeared at her house that they weren’t fed and watered and sometimes found new good homes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, Harry N. and Cora M. Childress, four brothers, Harvey, Harold, Marvin and Kenneth, and one son-in-law, Art Rosean.
She is survived by her three daughters, Darlene Rosean, Butler, MO, Denise Colvin (Steve), Geri Uribe (Manuel), of Jamestown, and granddaughters Renee’ Bannerman, Butler, MO, Rayne Chantel, Butler, MO, and Destin Allen, Raytown, MO; and two great-grandsons, Jayden and Jax Allen. She is also survived by her three sisters, Hazel Lampton, Boonville, Bonnie June Hayes, Kansas City, and Katherine Rose Schulze, Jamestown.
