Age 86, passed away on February 14, 2003 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 22, 1916 in Westphalia the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Simon) Nurenberg. Esther lived her entire life in the Westphalia area. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westphalia and active member of the St. Mary’s Christian Mothers and the Catholic order of Foresters. She married Louis Bedenbender on October 4, 1938, he preceded her in death on March 21, 1978. Mrs. Thelen is also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Oscar, Alfred, and Harold Nurenberg; 4 sisters, Philomena and Vera Nurenberg, Mathilda Thelen, and Laurine Schueller. Surviving are a son, Jack (Nancy) Bedenbender; 7 daughters, Patricia (Francis) Leik, Jan Maxwell, Betty (Joe) Peters, Nancy (Gary “Dewey”) Schrauben, Susan (Jon) Arendson, Debi Bedenbender, and Sheila (Steve) Kemp; 11 grandchildren; brother, Arnold Nurenberg; brother-in-law, Edwin Schueller. On November 23, 1985 she married Sylvester Thelen, he survives her. Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Elaine Fox; 5 step sons, Michael (Pat) Thelen, Charles (Sue) Thelen, Steve (Mary Lou) Thelen, Alan (Mary) Thelen, and Luke Thelen; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
