Ervine G. “Buster” Sproul, 90, of Newcastle, passed away at his home on the evening of September 14, with his loving family by his side. Born in Bristol on May 14, 1923, he was the son of Fossett and Susie (Ervine) Sproul. He grew up in Pemaquid Falls, graduating from Bristol High School, salutatorian of his class. He served in the Navy as an Aviation Machinist, honorably discharged in 1946. In 1948, he married Lila M. Gifford of Round Pond, raising their family in Pemaquid Falls for many years, relocating to Newcastle in 1971. Buster was a lifetime avid horseman, wood contractor and farmer. For over 15 years, he also worked for his brother and niece at Sproul’s Furniture in Newcastle. He had a lifelong love of people-friends of old, new, and ones to be and a desire to pass it on. His greatest source of pride and love though, was for his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and home. Buster leaves five children, Paul Sproul and wife Norma of Round Pond, Martha Blanc and husband Gene of Walpole, Susan Sewall and husband Richard of Round Pond, Amy Bissinger and husband Durell Bissinger, Jr. of Phippsburg, and Margaret Sproul and husband Randy Wade of Newcastle; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
