Emma Margaret Gust, the daughter of Rosalia (Havlicek) and John Raichl, was born on June 10, 1913 in Poplar Grove Township of Roseau County, MN. She grew up and attended school in Poplar Grove near Benwood. She and Alex Gust were married on November 1, 1932. They lived and farmed dairy cows on the Gust farm, which was homesteaded in 1904, and took care of his elderly parents. They continued farming small grains and dairy with their son, Albert and wife Rhoda. They moved to Gatzke, MN to a retirement farm with beef cattle and chickens. Emma had a large garden. She enjoyed cooking and baking many types of Czech dishes.
Emma Gust passed away on February 14, 2007 at the Greenbush Nursing Home at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 4 days.
She is survived by her children, Rosalie (Frank) Burda of Middle River, MN, Adeline (Harlan) Broten of Tower, MN and Albert (Rhoda) Gust of Strathcona; 24 grandchildren, Shawn, Shannon, Steven, Marisa, Laureen, Lisa Yvonne, David, Daniel, Angeline, Paul, Marguerite, Rosalind, Marilyn, Anthony, Theresa, Daniel, Matthew, Karen and Alan; 38 great-grandchildren, Dominick, Morea, Brandon, Breanne, Bret, Tim, Deven, Alex, Philip, Emily, Tyler, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Stephanie, Hunter, Nicholas, Garret, Megan, Alayna, Lindsey, Savannah, Alexandra, Laura, Cody, Rachel, Alec, Dean, Barbie, Katrina, Anthony, Brianna, Trustin, Shyanne, Hunter, Gunner, Brody and Codi, and Jace; sisters, Agnes Stehlik of Portland, OR and Frances Forst of Strathcona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alex oin April 3, 2002; brother, John; sisters, Annie Svir, Mary Pesek, Lillian Ellefson, Rose Raichl, Helen Raichl, and Elsie Raichl; grandson, Kelly Gust and Timothy Broten; and great-grandson, Ethan Espeseth.
