Emanuel “Joe” Joseph Martin, age 67, passed into perfect rest on Sept. 14th, 2021 in Brunswick, GA.
He was a 1972 graduate of Pascagoula High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Marine Engineering from Mississippi State University. He started work as a marine engineer in 1977 and moved up through the ranks. He was Senior Chief Engineer at the time of his retirement in early 2021. In 1978 he met and married Janet Olive Chester, of North Tonawanda, NY. Together they worked diligently to provide for and raise their three children. Anyone who knew “Joe” could see his strong and gentle hand, his absolutely brilliant mind, and his gratefulness for what Jesus Christ had done for him. It is that relationship with Jesus that allowed him to meet death as a friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Huggins Martin Sr. and Mary Jeanette Yon Martin, stepmother Dora Farragut Martin and older brother William “Billy” H. Martin Jr. (wife Wanda).
He is survived by his wife, Janet O. Martin, children Matthew W. Martin (wife Melinda) of Brunswick, GA, Rebecca C. Rose (husband Matthew, children Deborah, Hannah, Esther, Lydia, and Priscilla) of Kenya, and Kathleen Martin Kwok (husband Paul) of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Janet Arnold (husband Irving), and Frederick “Fred” Y. Martin (wife Nancy).
