Age 86, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2011. He was born on August, 31 1924 in Monroe, Michigan, the son of James and Leona (Boldt) Betz. Mr. Betz graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1950 and Wayne State University in 1957. He served in the Army during WWII and was the Assistant Principal at Ionia High School from 1972-1985. Elvin was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was the former president of M.A.R.S.P, Ionia chapter. He worked as a Track Official for the Michigan High School Athletic Association for 30 years and volunteered his time for the Commission on Aging. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irene Betz of Monroe, MI. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Phyllis; 3 sons, Dennis (Sue) Betz of Dexter, MI, Philip (Debra) Betz of Grand Rapids, MI and Gary (Nancy) Betz of Ionia, MI; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother, Ivan (Shirley) Betz of Griffin, Ga; sister, Patricia Ryan of Corryton, TN.
