Elliott L. Stimson, 90, passed away at his home in Nobleboro on the morning of January 10th. Born in Springfield, MA on March 26, 1920, he was the son of Samuel and Ruth (Chandler) Stimson. Elliott grew up in Springfield, MA and attended schools there. On June 21st 1941, he married his high school sweetheart, Jean Wojtowicz. On December 3rd 1942 he enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a Seabee with the 81st Construction Battalion during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Springfield, MA where he started a 35-year career with Gulf Oil. In 1964, the family came to Maine, living until the early 1980’s in Cumberland. The couple retired to the house they bought at the head of Great Salt Bay in Nobleboro in 1977. Elliott was a lifelong member of the Masons. In his younger years, he loved salt-water fishing and was an avid bowler. More recently, he could be found taking care of his house and his yard in Nobleboro. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Stimson in 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Janeen Barter of Nobleboro; three grandchildren, David Barter and his girlfriend Andi Lowery of Trevett, ME, Mark Barter and his fiancé Sarah Jo Brewer of Trevett, ME, and Amanda Main and her husband Andrew of Edgecomb, ME; two great grandchildren, Kinsey Dean of Richmond, and Gabryella “Gaby” Main – who is due to be born any day; as well as his ex son-in-law, Kevin Barter of Boothbay Harbor.
