Portland – Ellen “Ro Ro” Gillespie, 45, of Portland passed away on March 3, 2015 surrounded by a loving family after a long illness. She was born on September 21, 1969 to William and Evelyn (Nute) Gillespie, who preceded her in her passing. She also was predeceased by her sister, Mary Jane.
Ellen is survived by her sister Linda MacDonald and her husband Jim, her brother Michael Gillespie, her sister Donna Pooler, her brother William Gillespie and his wife Lisa, her brother Patrick Gillespie and his wife Anna, her sister Mary Ann Weeman, twenty-one nieces and nephews, twenty-four great nieces and nephews, five great-great nieces and nephews, and her best friend of 33 years, Kimi Cressey, as well as her loving furry companions, Gus and Finn.
We all face challenges every day and we choose how we face them, our demeanor and our outlook on life. Ellen was a shining example of how best to do this. She suffered so much loss in her life; and not the trivial loss like losing a job or a favorite jacket. She lost real things: her parents, her eyesight and her health. Through it all there were two things that were always present; her smile and her happiness. She faced all of her challenges head on and will be remembered for her courage, strong willpower and her loyalty to friends and family and for also being the best aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. The world smiles a little less today with her passing, but I hope the world remembers her tomorrow, puts on a smile and takes whatever is thrown its way in stride. Let’s honor her smile everyday.
