Elizabeth Carolyn Warner Seymour, 95, of Sykesville, formerly of Bethesda, MD, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Carroll Dove House, Westminster, MD. Until the brief illness resulting in her transfer to hospice care, she was a resident at Fairhaven, Sykesville, MD.
Born May 27, 1918 in Salisbury, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late George Raymond and Bessie LeCompte Warner. She was the wife of the late Gilbert B. Seymour. They had been married for 32 years.
Known best by her nickname, Connie was a graduate of Salisbury State Teachers’ College and taught elementary school from 1939-1941. She was then employed as a subversive radio analyst for the FBI in Washington, DC from 1941-1945, leaving the FBI to become a Capitol Tour Guide on Capitol Hill from 1945-1949.
Following her marriage to Gil, Connie became a homemaker and volunteer. She was a member of the League of Women Voters, Chairperson of the Voter Service Committee for Montgomery County, and a member of the Chevy Chase Women’s Club. Using her skills as an expert seamstress, she was an Adult Education Sewing Teacher for 15 years, and served as a Montgomery County 4-H Volunteer. She was the organizational leader of the Bethesda Girls 4-H Club and organized an afterschool 4-H Club at the National
4-H Council in Chevy Chase. She taught countywide 4-H tailoring classes and spent many hours as a volunteer with the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair, earning a life membership.
Connie was a volunteer and member of the Hall of Fame of the National Children’s Center primarily for her work in sewing hundred’s of Clipper the Clown puppets for children admitted to the Center. She was a Homemaker Club member, and was honored as a Hall of Fame member of the Montgomery County Extension Service.
After moving to Fairhaven in 1992, she became involved with Fairhaven Archives, creator of Fairhaven Family Scrapbooks, sang in the Fairhaven Chapel Choir and was the Fairhaven Volunteer of the Year in 2005. She loved to participate in the many activities at Fairhaven and was known for her tea parties. She was of the Episcopalian faith.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth Anna Seymour Davis and Daniel of Jerusalem, Israel, sister Elizabeth Warner Sutherland, four grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She leaves behind many friends from her Bethesda, Leisure World and Fairhaven communities. A special friend was Allen Brougham, also of Fairhaven.
