Elizabeth “Betty” Nell Kimberlin Griffin of Steelville, Missouri passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the age of 91 years, 7 months and 9 days. Betty was born December 3, 1924 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Phillip Grant Smith and Maud Wilson Smith. In March of 1941 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Dayle E. Kimberlin who preceded her in death in 1999. In September of 2001, she was united in marriage to Paul Griffin who preceded her in death in 2007.
Betty worked along side her husband Dayle for many years keeping the books in their plumbing business. Betty was well known for her volunteerism in the community. She spent many hours aside Ava Viehman when starting up the Steelville Star and working up at Golden Echoes and the resale shop. She also donated her time sewing cooking aprons for the local Masonic Hall and making treats for the Steelville Fire Protection District and Ambulance District. She volunteered her home many times to the local Boy Scouts, Troop 477, with a place to meet, have refreshments or meals. In 2012, she was given an Honorary Grandmother award from the Boy Scouts which she cherished. Betty was a member of the Meramec Garden Club, Eastern Star and Ozark Trail Blazers and attended the Church of Christ in Cuba.
Betty’s life touched many of us in this area and she will be missed by the people who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Dayle Kimberlin and Paul Griffin; two sons, Schuyler “Scott” Kimberlin and Mickey D. Kimberlin; brothers, Rush, Ralph and Raymond Smith; and sisters, Evelyn, Sybil and Bonnie.
Betty will be sadly missed by her daughter, Gayle Overby and husband Jerry of Festus, MO; sister, Dorothy Ruestman of AR; sisters-in-law, Margaret Smith of Corpus Christi, TX and Regina Kimberlin Farquer of St. Louis, MO; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and many special friends.
