Age 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2008. He was born on May 15, 1920 in Blanchard, MI the son of Henry M. and Margorie (Royston) Knapp. Eldon graduated from Ionia High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the Sheridan VFW Post #5065 and life member of the Ionia D.A.V. He worked for Brown’s Boat Co. in Lyons, the Fisher Body Plant and the Oldsmobile Drop Forge Plant, both in Lansing, the Wildlife Preservation in Belding, Knapp’s Produce Co., and was a title controller for the Secretary of State. He was a member of Shiloh Community Church, Past Master of the Lyons Masonic Lodge #37, Past Worthy Patron for the Lyons #334 Eastern Star, and was a member of the Michigan Fiddler’s Association and the Michigan Music Hall of Fame. He married Lilah Keehn in 1942 and she preceded him in death on October 1, 1993. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Vaughn Knapp. Surviving are 2 sons, Ronald (Jan) Knapp of Petoskey and Robert Knapp of Ionia; daughter, Sharon (Carl) Merklinger of Lakeview; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Arlene Benn of Grand Ledge.
