Portland – Edythe (Tapley) Moulton, “Edie,” 84, of Portland, passed away on December 23, 2014 at the Barron Center after a short illness. She was born on March 14, 1930 in South Portland, a daughter of Frederick and Laura (Moody) Tapley. She grew up in South Portland, graduating from South Portland High School.
Edie married Edward Stanley Moulton, “Eddie,” on June 3, 1950. Together they raised six children at their home in Portland. She earned her CNA certificate, worked as a nurse’s aide and seamstress, but her full-time job was raising her family. She was a multi-talented woman; making all of her daughters’ wedding dresses, cutting her kids’ hair and she always had a home-cooked meal ready for her family. She also loved to go shopping, painting and knitting for her grandchildren. Edie and Eddie spent many winters in Florida, along with their friends and neighbors from Maine.
Edie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Eddie and her sisters, Helen, Arlene and Esther. She is survived by her children; Stephen and his wife Karen of Portland, Robert and his wife Dianne of Gorham, Karen Hendrix of Arizona, Richard and his wife Sheri of Portland, Nancy Thurlow and her husband Roland of Durham, Stacy LaRoche and her husband Jack of Biddeford, twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren as well as her sister Dorothy of Chelmsford, MA.
