Edith L. Poland, 93, passed away on the morning of November 30th 2010. Born in New Harbor on January 1st 1917, she was the only child of Charles and Mary (Morton) Sherman. Edith grew up in Cushing and South Bristol, and attended schools in both South Bristol and Thomaston. She married Orrin Poland and together the lived in New Harbor, where they raised their 6 children. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in New Harbor. She loved to cook, and her CB Radio handle was “Biscuit Maker”. She is survived by her six children, Fred Poland and his longtime companion Evelyn Winchenback of Waldoboro, Ellen Rice and her husband Merrill of New Harbor, Arthur Poland and his wife Trish of Walpole, Bucky Poland of Florida, Mary Stevens and her husband Perley of Skowhegan, and Stuart Poland and his wife Iris of Walpole; as well as 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
