Detlef “Dutch” Manfred Dieter Harnitz, age 80 of Mankato, passed away at home on Saturday, February 26, 2022 with his family by his side.
Dutch was born in Stettin, Germany on March 28, 1941 to Max Fredrich Ernst and Ella Luise Anna (Zimdahl) Harnitz. Dutch studied Tool and Die in Bonn Germany. He immigrated to the U.S in 1963 and was proud to become a U.S. citizen. On February 21, 1965, he married Sharon Jane at St. Paul’s. For 45 years he was employed at Continental Can/Crown Cork and Seal in Mankato.
Dutch is survived by his children, Andre (Amy) Harnitz of Mankato, Cory (Lisa) Harnitz of Mankato, Kelly Harnitz of Mankato, Grandchildren Ariel, Ari, Anastasia, Alex, Liza, Dutch, Ivy of Mankato. Sister Marianne (Hans) Witsch of San Jose, CA and nieces/nephews, Angela, Elke, Gabrielle, Ralf, Uve, Matt.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; wife, Sharon.
Dutch was not only a brother, dad, uncle, and grandpa, he connected with everyone he met.
