Dr. John J. McCloskey, Col, U.S. Army, Retired, passed away on Friday February 26, 2021 in Pascagoula, MS.
Dr. McCloskey was born the oldest of six children, to Joseph and Bernadette McCloskey on May 21,1943 in Pittsburgh, PA. His formal education was earned at St Louis School of Medicine Class of “69”, University of Kentucky College of Medicine, internship 1969-1970, University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Neurological Surgery, 1970-1976, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Residency, Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in Miami, FL 1976-1977, and practiced neurosurgery at Singing River Hospital from 1979-2014. He had a deep passion for his profession as a Neurosurgeon and his church, Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church. He loved his family, church, jogging, military service and his many friends and patients.
He retired as a Colonel in the United States Army and served in the Army Reserves for 40 plus years. He was thrilled to served his country, serving in Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom. He served not because he had to but a desire to leave the world a better place.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Francis and Bernadette McCloskey. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Combs McCloskey of Pascagoula, MS; children, John Michael McCloskey of Pascagoula, MS and Dr. Susan Ann McCloskey of Santa Monica, CA; Siblings, Tom and Louise McCloskey of Bainbridge Island, Washington, Sheila and Hal Schoettger of Garden Valley, Idaho, Jim McCloskey and Judy Sanoian of Woodland Hills, CA.
