Dr. Albert R. Baumann, of Steelville, Missouri died suddenly Wednesday, June 10, 2008. Dr. Baumann was a retired medical doctor who served the Steelville and Crawford County area for most of the past 52 years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann (Lathrop) Baumann also of Steelville and nine children, 31 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Dr. Baumann was born in Fairfax Minnesota on January 17, 1927 to Dr. Albert W. Baumann and Ann R.(Janda) Baumann . Dr. Baumann enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during WWII until his discharge in November 1945. He received his BS and Masters degree from the University of Minnesota in 1949 and his Medical Degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1953. During this time he met Mary Ann Lathrop and they were wed in her home town of Miles City, Montana on June 17, 1952.
After he completed in his residency work in Knoxville, Tennessee and Santa Cruz, California, Dr. Baumann moved to Pacific, Missouri where he joined a local practice. In December 1955 he founded his own practice in Steelville , Missouri where he practiced until his retirement in October 1997. Dr. Baumann enjoyed his family, gardening, hunting, fishing, fast cars and relaxing at his farm near Cuba, Missouri .
Those who remain to mourn him are his wife of fifty-six years Mrs. Mary Ann Baumann of the home in Steelville, Missouri; nine children, Raymond John Baumann and wife Christine of Ellisville, MO; Mary Ann “Honey” Swiney, Herbert Joseph Baumann and wife Nancy, Albert Raymond JR. and wife Laurie and Michael William Baumann all of Ballwin, MO, Theresa Marie Ives and husband Steve of Cuba, MO, David Anthony Baumann and wife Dotty of Manchester, MO, Patrick Joseph Baumann and wife Angela of
Eureka, MO and Susan Marie Clonts and husband Michael of Stanton, MO; two sisters, Rita Dummer and husband Thomas of Bloomington, MN and Bonnie Stadther and husband Bart of Fairmont, MN; one sister-in-law, Terri Lathrop of S. Milwaukee, WI; twenty-nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law, Herb Lathrop and one sister-in-law, Gaines (Lathrop) Brath.
