Douglas Ray Overby, 81, passed away on Sun. April 30, 2023 at Parkway Health & Rehab in Canton, MS.
Douglas was born on Jan. 20, 1942 to the late Ruel Lee Overby and Mary Louise O’Briant Overby at the former Jackson Infirmary which is now St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. He grew up in Brandon, MS and was a Brandon High School graduate of 1960, where he played Baseball, Basketball and Football. His college years were spent at Hinds Community College and The University of Southern Mississippi.
His working career was spent in automobile sales and insurance. He retired from St. Dominic Hospital and was a member of Truitt Baptist Church in Pearl, MS. Mr. Overby was an avid sports fan of Brandon High School football where he was announcer for the Bulldogs Football games for several years in the past. Ole Miss Rebels were another favorite, and he listened to every game of both teams that he could get on the radio or television.
Doug is survived by his children, Sidney Lee Overby (Teresa) of Brandon, MS, Jeffrey “Jeff” Alan Overby (Carolyn) of Madison, MS and Jacqueline “Jackie” Michelle Overby Kiser (Gary) of Clinton, MS; sister, Barbara Overby Joyner (Rodney) of Brandon, MS; 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
The family gives a special thanks to Forest Hill Nursing Center in Jackson, MS and Parkway Health and Rehab Center in Canton, MS for their years of excellent care and dedication for his well-being.
