Dorothy Billberg, age 85 of Roseau passed away on Saturday, September 9, at her home in Roseau.

Dorothy Billberg, the daughter of Mathilda (Eberhartson) and Louis Larson was born on April 7, 1921 in Argyle, MN. She was raised in Argyle where she attended school. She graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston and then attended Bemidji State College where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Dorothy taught school in Argyle, Wannaska, and Roseau. After 42 years of teaching she was elected teacher of the year in 1980. She retired from teaching in 1985.

Dorothy married Ellwood Billberg on July 30, 1941 in Chicago. A few years later they settled in Wannaska, MN, and later moved to Roseau in 1959 where they lived since. Ellwood passed away in 1995.

Dorothy was very involved in the community and supported the arts and many other cultural activities in Roseau. She was involved in the Roseau County Fair planning for many years, was on the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Retired Teachers Association.

Dorothy’s Faith came first in her life. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, the Messiah Quilters, and numerous other church functions over the years. She also belonged to the Lady slipper Garden Club and the Alpha Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Thomas (Arlene) Billberg of Roseau, and Gregory (Sherry) Billberg of Alexandria, MN; five grandchildren, Dea Marie (Roy) Casey, Cory Lee (Matt) Arends, Lenni Jean Billberg, Jerit Thomas Billberg, Elizabeth Ann Billberg, and Aaron Billberg; five great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Mikaela, Sydney, Ty, and Jackson; two sisters, Myrna (David) Evert of Casper, WY, and Eileen Owens of Green Bay, WI; brother-in-law Paul (Clarice) Billberg of Wannaska, and sister-in-law Lyla (Marvin) Eukel of Albertville, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband Ellwood and her parents.
